Moving the coop is SO easy my 11 year old niece can move it!

We Just Made the Hoop Coop Even Easier to Move
We’ve been moving chicken tractors for a long time.
From muddy spring pastures to dry summer grass, we’ve tested more wheel systems than I can count. Some worked for a while, but many didn’t hold up over time.
When we designed the hoop coop, we wanted it to move easily. Not just on paper, but in real life. So we built and tested a DIY wheel system that actually works with daily use, uneven ground, and changing weather.
It does the job really well.
We’re also the kind of people who like to keep improving, so we started experimenting.
After testing several ideas that didn’t quite work, my dad had the idea for a simple, low-tech method that requires no modifications at all.
But it’s made such a difference that my 11-year-old niece can move the 3 panel coop herself!
What You’ll See in the Video
This quick walkthrough shows:
-
A simple, low-tech method we’re now using to make moving our larger coop even easier
-
Practical tips for pulling and turning your coop smoothly
-
Best practices for rope placement, terrain, and setup to avoid unnecessary strain
Whether you’re using the 2-panel or 3-panel version, these ideas can help make your setup more efficient without overcomplicating it.
Why This Matters
Moving your coop shouldn’t feel like dragging a wagon uphill. If it’s frustrating, you’re less likely to do it consistently. And that defeats the purpose of rotating your flock to fresh grass.
This tweak is just one more way to keep your setup simple, efficient, and doable without extra help or extra tools.
It’s the kind of fix we love: straightforward, tested, and easy to try.
