For added protection, we include an optional DIY predator apron build video to help prevent digging predators. No coop is 100% predator-proof, but our deisng is sturdy and secure against common threats like coyote, fox, birds of prey, raccoon, dog, bobcats, and cougar.

We've never had a predator get in- except for a black rat snake that slipped in through the open chicken door to eat eggs.

Yes! Our winter build video shows a simple winter adjustment that makes a big difference. Most chickens handle cold quite well, but choosing the right breed for your climate helps.

We have customers in Alaska and Canada using this coop, but often in snowy or frozen conditions customers choose to leave the coop stationary during winter. You can use bedding like chopped alfalfa- chickens love to scratch/eat the alfalfa and the leftovers can be composted in spring. You can also utilize the deep litter method if you choose.

Proper ventilation is key- even during winter- since humidity can increase the frostbite risk. Adding heat often causes more harm than good due to the humidity increase, but heat lamps or radiant heaters can easily be hung from the cattle panels.

YES! Chickens quickly learn that fresh grass means fresh bugs and move to the front as you go. Moving by hand lets you go slow and keep an eye on them, and our wheel system lifts the coop just enough for easy movement - without givin them an easy escape.

It depends on how you keep your flock and the breed! Here's some general guidelines:

Space recommendations:

• Free ranging layers: ~4 sq ft per bird
• Confined layers: ~8-12 sq ft per bird
• Meat birds: varies by breed and harvest age
• Roost space: 10-12" per bird

Two panel hoop coop:

• 200" of roost space
• 67 sq ft of run space
• Fits 16-20 free-ranging layers
• Houses 26+ broiler chickens

Three panel hoop coop:

• 288" of roost space
• 96 sq ft of run space
• Fits 24-30 free-ranging layers
• Houses 30+ broiler chickens

These are general guidelines - the coop works as a tractor, stationary coop, or run extension to fit your needs.

Costs vary based on lumber prices in your area. In Georgia USA during Spring 2024 we built a 2 panel and 3 panel coop during filming:

• 2 panel coop: ~$450 (includes $50 for wheels)
• 3 panel coop: ~$500 (includes $50 for wheels)

These estimates don't include optional accessories like an automatic chicken door, solar lights, winterization panels, or tools.

In Spring 2025 we have had customers report $300 for a 2 panel coop in Arkansas to $800 for a 3 panel coop in Alaska.

No! The hoop coop is versatile and works for ducks, geese, turkeys, guinea fowl, peafowl + more. Some customers have even adapted it for rabbits, goats, and quail. It can be used as a stationary coop, mobile chicken tractor, or an extension run for an existing setup.
